Lock changes are one of our most common jobs — typically 25–55 minute attendance, fixed price agreed before we set off, no nights or weekends premium. Whether you've just moved in, lost a key, split with a partner, suffered a break-in attempt or simply want to upgrade to TS007 3-star insurance-approved cylinders, the work is straightforward and quick.
We carry every common UK lock as standard van stock: TS007 3-star (Sold Secure Diamond) Avocet ABS, Brisant Ultion and Mul-T-Lock euro cylinders for UPVC and composite doors; BS3621 Banham, Chubb 3G110 and Union 2C13 mortice locks for traditional timber doors; full keyed-alike sets in any common cylinder size. Over 95% of lock changes are first-visit fixes.
Pricing is fixed and agreed on the phone before the engineer sets off — £79 standard, £109–£159 for higher-spec replacements, £199+ for multi-door keyed-alike sets. There are no upcharges on arrival.
When you should change your locks
Moving into a new home is the single most common reason. You genuinely don't know how many keys are in circulation — the previous owner may have given keys to cleaners, dog-walkers, neighbours, ex-partners, builders, estate agents. A £79 cylinder change is cheap insurance.
After losing a key set you can't account for — particularly if the keys had an address tag or were lost near home. The cost of changing locks (£79–£129) is a small fraction of the cost of a burglary insurance excess.
After a break-in or attempted break-in. Even if the burglar didn't get in, they now know the door type and the lock spec — a TS007 3-star anti-snap upgrade hardens the door against repeat attempts.
After splitting from a partner, housemate or employee who held keys. The cleanest outcome legally and practically is a fresh cylinder.
After several years on the same locks if you want to upgrade to insurance-approved TS007 3-star. Most pre-2010 UK locks aren't 3-star, and a meaningful number of UK home-insurance policies now either recommend or require it.
What gets changed: cylinder vs full lock vs mortice
Euro cylinder change (UPVC and composite doors): the lock body stays in the door; we swap only the cylinder. £79–£129 fitted with TS007 3-star upgrade. Quickest and cheapest. 20–30 minutes per door.
Full UPVC lock change: cylinder plus the multipoint gearbox. £139–£179 fitted. Best value if the door is older and the gearbox is also showing wear.
BS3621 mortice lock change (timber doors): removing and refitting a 5-lever mortice. £109–£159 fitted. We carry brass-finish Banham, Chubb 3G110 and Union 2C13 to keep the door furniture aesthetically right.
Night-latch (Yale-style rim lock) change: £79–£119 fitted. We fit BS3621-approved 5-lever rim deadlocks where insurers require them.
Multi-door keyed-alike sets: front + back + side on one key. From £199 fitted depending on lock types. The most-requested upgrade because of the daily convenience.
TS007 3-star: the insurance-spec cylinder upgrade
If we're already on site changing a UPVC cylinder, we always recommend a TS007 3-star (Sold Secure Diamond) upgrade. Standard 1990s/2000s cylinders are snappable in under 30 seconds with widely-available tools — the most common method used in UPVC front-door burglaries across the UK.
TS007 3-star solves this with a sacrificial section that snaps cleanly without exposing the working mechanism, plus a hardened anti-drill core. Cost premium over a standard cylinder is £30–£60 — and every major UK home insurer recommends or requires them.
We fit Avocet ABS, Brisant Ultion and Mul-T-Lock TS007 3-star cylinders as standard, all with the kitemark insurers ask for.
What to expect when you book a lock change
Call or WhatsApp with the door type, lock type if known, and any photos of the existing lock. We confirm the part is on the van, quote a fixed total, and give you an arrival window — typically same day, often inside 2 hours of the call.
Engineer arrives in branded uniform with photo ID. Fits the new lock (typically 20–45 minutes per door), tests the operation a dozen times with you watching, hands you the new keys, and emails an itemised invoice. Pay by card, cash or bank transfer.
12-month workmanship guarantee on every lock change. Parts carry the manufacturer's standard warranty — typically 10 years for TS007 3-star cylinders.
